Fill your wallet with ETH (Ether)
We're encouraging you to purchase ETH because that's what you'll use to cover the gas fee when you mint a Pixel Prize in Step 7.
Ether is the transactional token that facilitates operations on the Ethereum blockchain.
Here, we'll walk you through buying ETH through Wyre, an established cryptocurrency exchange. Wyre is the easiest way to obtain ETH using your debit or credit card, however, not all banks support it. If Wyre isn't working for you after attempting to verify through your bank, we provide alternative suggestions on purchasing ETH at the bottom of this step.
01: Open Metamask and select "buy"
Click your MetaMask browser Plugin. Select “Buy”.
Continue to Wyre (Wyre widget should open in new window).
02: Input the amount you'd like to spend
Select the amount, currency, and payment method you'd like to use to buy your ETH.
You'll only need about 0.02 ETH, or around $25. This will be to cover the transaction fee, or gas fee, associated with minting a Pixel Prize. The NFT itself is free!
Agree to terms and hit “Next”.
03: Enter your info and verify transaction
Enter payment info and wait for your order to process.
(You may have to verify with your bank.)
04: Celebrate!
Success! If you want, you can click “Track transaction status” to see more transaction details, but it's not necessary to view this.
You may close the window.
Congrats! You now own some Ethereum!
Having trouble with Wyre?
Some banks will flag a transaction on Wyre due to their regulations on cryptocurrencies. If you're having trouble with the steps above, even after verifying with your bank, here are some other ways you can safely purchase ETH:
- Use Moonpay, a popular crypto payment solution. To purchase ETH through Moonpay, repeat step 1 above, but instead of selecting Wyre, select Moonpay (the third option). Moonpay will guide you through the steps to purchasing ETH.
- Use Coinbase, one of the most trusted cryptocurrency exchanges today. You'll have to create a Coinbase account here, then purchase some ETH through the app. Once you have some ETH in your Coinbase account, navigate to the top of your account and click the Send/Receive button. Then, choose the amount of ETH you want to send to your MetaMask wallet, make sure you select pay with Ethereum. Here's a video that walks through the process.
